Finding beauty in everyday life.

The previous blog post quoting my friend and Last Job coauthor Buck Bloom picked up on Buck’s natural ability to hone onto a singular point that makes the mundane something wondrous.
He did that with a slice of carrot.
Now, I love food (my sizable stomach will confirm this) and I could bore/tease you, the reader, with descriptions of the morsels I’ve eaten and how each type of food is my favorite. However, my mouth is already watering, so I’ll be saving you and myself from those details.
Instead I’ll fixate on nature. I am fortunate to live in Buffalo, NY, a place with a small downtown and many towns/neighborhoods with nature all around. I’ve gone for walks often and even in winter, with the bitter breeze that cuts through most layers, I am often stricken to stand still and marvel at the beauty around me.
Have you ever been outside at night, and looked up? Have you seen the partially clouded sky illuminated by the moon and stars? Keeping to the world above, have you stopped and looked up at the sky during the day to see a full blue vastness? For cloudy days, I’ve glanced up to see a chessboard-like cloud structure twice in my life.
Ever notice that one decorative flower surrounded by bland weeds? Opposite that, have you turned off the lights after a snowstorm and, standing near a window, felt bewitched by the reflected light from the snow outside? How everything seemed so different and familiar at the same time.
Have you ever lost yourself on how stunning another person looks? The colors worn matching perfectly with their hair and eyes, or perhaps that flawless angle caught at the right moment.
It is in these small moments that I feel present, that I am connected with my world and others around me. It is these types of small moments that I seek to add to my writing.
